15 years of... Collaboration
We’re delighted to showcase an interview with one of our longest-standing partners, commercial insurance and risk management specialist, Spencer Hayes Group.
Our connection goes way back to 2008, when Joanne Ginty met two of the founding directors of Spencer Hayes Insurance, whilst they were wearing different hats. Collaboration between them and Action Insurance Repair has grown stronger over the 15 years since and we were delighted when Director Marc Kirker agreed to chat with us about why AIR continues to work for Spencer Hayes Group clients.
How did you come across AIR all those years ago, if you can remember, and what drew you to their services?
I was introduced to Joanne by a colleague at the time and I remember thinking how refreshing it was to talk with someone who was so knowledgeable about the insurance industry – she solved multiple problems for us!
A constant challenge we face with our clients is that they need a quick repair to keep their lives on track/ business running and so they appoint tradesmen quickly, sometimes without going through the proper channels with the insurance company. The tradesmen then, of course, want to pay quickly, but the client cannot recoup retrospectively from the insurance company, and the insurer has to catch up! Alternatively, the contractor would put pressure on us, the insurance broker to get the payment from the insurer, so it caused additional headaches for us!
Joanne provided a solution for all of this, by acting as the go-between for us and every time she did, she was quick, efficient and nothing was left undone.
Was there anyone else in the market at the time?
Larger franchises were doing the same thing at the time, but Joanne never gave us a reason to try someone else.
She is experienced to assess promptly what’s needed and what’s not; she’s very au fait with the processes in the industry and she and her team react and act quickly and deliver absolute consistency every time. We needed someone we could trust to get on with things properly, with no bad surprises. Joanne has always done that from day one - and continues to do so. Our clients just sort out their excess – there is nothing else they need to do.
Do you have any thoughts about how the insurance industry is evolving?
There’s room for clarity all-round in the insurance industry. Insurance is made very complex – unnecessarily so. Ultimately, it’s a legal contract between the client and the insurer and there really should be more clarity, so people know what they’ve signed up for.
People don’t know what they’re covered for – or what they need to be covered for – and they very rarely, if ever, read their insurance policy – but who can blame them? It’s boring and confusing and in some instances can be deliberately misleading. But the Devil’s in the detail and it all needs to be simplified and put into plain English: The Policyholder promises to: A,B,C and the Insurer promises to: X,Y,Z.
